A SUNDERLAND software company is taking on extra staff after landing a huge American contract.

OnePoint Systems, based at the Quay West Business Village near Queen Alexandra Bridge, is to install and maintain a bespoke warehousing management system for a large manufacturer.

The firm has been expanding its U.S. order book for a number of years and is taking on two new software developers to add to its team of 14 to help deliver the $300,000 contract – more than £195,000.

Managing director Jason Brown said: “The latest contract win is fantastic news and further testament to the skills of our in-house development and support team.

“The majority of our work to date has been producing complex bespoke software systems for large American companies and facilities.

“We have built up an excellent reputation in the US for being able to swiftly and efficiently deliver custom-build projects, and it is this experience we now want to apply to North-East businesses. Most businesses do not realise the massive impact even the simplest software package can have on their internal processes and systems, saving time and money.”

The company has been aided by Sunderland Software City.

Jason said: “We have received valuable support form Sunderland Software City over the course of the last few years, and that support has played a big part in OnePoint’s success.

“Not only have they helped us with the recruitment of skilled developers, marketing and advice on business planning and sales, they are integral to the success of the North East’s software economy as a whole, a fantastic advocate that is making the UK, and the rest of the world, sit up and pay attention to our home-grown software talent.”

Software City chief executive David Dunn said: “OnePoint Systems is a prime example of how businesses in the North East are having an impact on the global software market.

“As well as flying the flag for North-East software in the US, Jason and the team are providing a valuable contribution to the regional economy, creating jobs and helping other local businesses to exploit the extensive benefits software can bring.

“Jason is a fantastic ambassador for the North East’s software industry and we look forward to continuing to work with OnePoint Systems as the company continues to grow.”
