A new lease of life will be breathed into a well-known city restaurant this week.

The former Cafe Spice in Douro Terrace, Ashbrooke, will reopen as Yuvraaj on Friday after a £160,000 refurbishment by new owner Monwar Hussain, creating 17 new positions, including chefs, kitchen assistants, bar and waiting staff and office assistants.

“We’re in the best area of Sunderland as far as restaurants go,” said Monwar.

“It’s easily accessible from the city centre and all parts of Sunderland.

Yuvraaj promises traditional Indian cuisine with western fusion influences.

“The building is beautiful and should provide the perfect setting for what we want to create,” said Monwar.

“We are very excited for the future.”
