NISSAN’S Sunderland plant will close for three extra days over Easter as the firm comes to terms with the effects of the Japanese earthquake.

The plant was already due to be closed on Easter Monday, April 25, and the Royal Wedding bank holiday on Friday, April 29.

But plans to re-open between the two bank holidays have been abandoned due to a shortage of parts that are imported from Japan.

Bosses hope to minimise the impact by bringing forward three planned non-production days from later in the year.
