ELEVEN jobs have been lost on Wearside with the collapse of lingerie chain La Senza.

The firm’s store in The Bridges has closed after administrators were unable to find a buyer.

A further 18 posts have gone with the closure of the Newcastle branch, but 30 have been saved with the sale of the MetroCentre and Middlesbrough stores.

Financial specialists KPMG were appointed as administrators yesterday and completed an agreement to sell part of the business to Alshaya UK, part of the Kuwait-based Alshaya group.

It has acquired 60 La Senza stores, out of 146 stores and 18 concessions, securing 1,100 jobs in the process.

Mohammed Alshaya, executive chairman of Alshaya Group in Kuwait, said: “This is the first step in a long-term commitment to developing the La Senza UK business, which we believe has great potential.”
