AWARD-WINNING communications consultancy Press Ahead is once again backing the search for the cream of Wearside business.

The company has pledged its support of the Sunderland Echo Portfolio Business Awards as sponsor of the Small Business category for the second year running.

The Sunderland-based firm specialises in PR, marketing and research services for local and national businesses and organisations – large and small – across a diverse range of sectors including outdoors, sport, public sector and retail.

The company has a particular empathy with the Portfolio Awards, having been named Best Small Business in 2009 for demonstrating significant growth and excellence in customer service after just five years in business.

Since then, Press Ahead has continued to reaffirm its position as a leading player in the communications sector on a regional and national playing field.

Managing director Russell Borthwick said: “As a previous winner, we were keen to continue our ongoing support of the Portfolio Awards.

“They are an excellent platform to celebrate business excellence, innovation and success, which is especially important in what are still challenging economic times.

“We’re excited to be involved in the Portfolio Awards once again. As past ceremonies have highlighted, there is a wealth of business talent here in Sunderland that we should all be extremely proud of.”

With a commitment to celebrating success and to supporting local causes, Press Ahead has also played a major role in the organisation of this year’s Alternative Business Awards which take a light-hearted look at the success (or otherwise) of North East business people, in aid of the Percy Hedley Foundation, a charity working with children and adults with cerebral palsy and communication difficulties in the North East.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been able to play a part in arranging this fantastic biennial event in aid of such a worthy cause. It is, of course, a total coincidence that the Award being sponsored by Press Ahead is ‘The Shy Bairn.’ Nothing to do with me.”
