THREE Sunderland businesses are celebrating after being shortlisted in a national competition.

Conkemp, Source Code Design, and The North East HUB have all been nominated in the Newspaper Society’s Local Business Accelerators competition to find the country’s most promising small businesses.

Conkemp is a recruitment company in Newcastle Road.

Source Code Design is a website design and printing company based at Quay West Business Village.

The North East HUB is based in Roker and promotes businesses and events across the region.

They will have to wait until October to see if they have won the national prize, which includes a year’s mentoring from Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden, £10,000 from the Business Growth Fund, free broadband and an iPad.

Sunderland City Council leader Paul Watson said: “This is great news for the businesses themselves and for the city as a whole.”
