NORTH East businesses are recruiting at the highest level since the start of the recession, according to new figures from the North East Chamber of Commerce.

The latest Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) found firms were staying positive despite struggling to maintain the strong growth levels seen in the first half of the year.

Chamber head of policy Ross Smith, said: “Although we are seeing the most positive workforce figures we have seen in four years, this is largely firms rebuilding their workforces that we lost at the onset of the recession. We are seeing people employed two or three at a time”.
