TALENTED pupils could step into a Dragons’ Den-style boardroom to present their community business ideas.

Year 5 children at St Patrick’s Primary School, in Ryhope, will compete against 14 other schools from across the North East as part of Newcastle Building Society’s Boardroom Challenge.

The nine- and 10-year-old competitors will be challenged to come up with business ideas, which must focus on benefiting their area while also making a profit.

Eight of the participating schools will be chosen by an initial judging panel to go forward to the competition’s final stages.

There they will present their ideas to a panel of business figures in the boardroom at the company’s principal office.

The winning school will receive a £500 donation towards setting up their business idea.

The Boardroom Challenge is part of a six-week programme which teaches core numeracy and literacy skills.
