THE number of people looking for work on Wearside fell by just over 100 last month.

The latest figures show there were 6,483 people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance – paid to those officially classed as looking for employment – in Sunderland in September, a drop of 101 on August’s figure of 6,584.

September was the eight consecutive month to see a reduction in the number of claimants across the city.

The claimant count has fallen by more than 2,000 during the last 12 months.
