Nissan offers glimpse of the future

SUNDERLAND’S Nissan plant has given a group of North East students a steer towards a career in manufacturing.

Fifteen young people from Egglescliffe Comprehensive School were given a glimpse of modern-day manufacturing as part of a drive to encourage interest in the industry.

The visit was arranged by Mike Matthews, managing director of Stockton-based car parts company Nifco, after he became concerned about the lack of young people studying for a career in manufacturing and engineering.

Nissan vice-president for manufacturing in the UK, Kevin Fitzpatrick said: “There are a wide variety of job opportunities at Nissan and we welcome the chance to show students what an exciting and rewarding career we offer.”
