A new Post Office ‘main’ service will be operational in Shiney Row from the end of the month.

Four counter positions, three modern screened positions and an open-plan combination counter will be operational at McColl’s Retail Group in Westbourne Terrace.

Extended opening times will see an increase of more than 62 hours of Post Office service a week with earlier opening, later closing and a service on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

The branch will open from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday, with selected products and services available from the retail counter from 6am to 9am, and 5.30pm to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 10pm on Sunday.

Dave Thomas, chief operating officer at McColl’s Retail Group, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming customers to our newly-refurbished Shiney Row Post Office, which will offer a wide range of Post Office services alongside our extensive retail offer.

“As a convenience store operator we are always looking for ways to make life easier for our customers, and the additional Post Office services will be available for the full opening hours of the store in order to provide an excellent service for the local community.”

Anne Clark, area manager, said: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.

“This investment marks a commitment to our ‘no more branch closure’ programme.”

The Shiney Row Post Office will be closed from 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 22, for the refurbishment work to take place.

The new facility will then officially re-open at 1pm on Friday, July 31.

This closure will not affect the retail part of the store which will remain open.

During the renovation period, services can be accessed from an alternative branch, including Houghton Post Office, 12 Newbottle Street, and Harraton Post Office, Breamar House, Vigo Lane, Harraton, Washington.
