SUPERMARKET giant Aldi opened its third store in Sunderland today.
Aldi Carley Hill has created 30 jobs, providing a range of opportunities for people and joins the city’s other two Aldi stores in St Marks Road and on Hylton Riverside Retail Park.
David Graham, manager of the new store, said the company was very excited about the launch.
He said: “We are very excited about our involvement within the community and look forward to working with more community groups in the future.”
To celebrate the launch of the store on Carley Hill Road, the 25th Sunderland (Castletown) Scouts went along to help David cut the ribbon.
And, as a first day treat, customers were offered free bacon and sausage sandwiches throughout the morning.
David said: “Aldi prides itself on the high quality of its produce, so all food will be locally sourced and can be found throughout the store.”
The new Carley Hill store has already been getting involved with various groups in the community, including donating £250 to the scouts who are fund-raising to buy a new minibus to use on camping and other activity trips.
In November, Aldi donated money to the Mayor’s Civic Charities as well as providing five luxury hampers for the Mayor’s Civic Dinner raffle.
Aldi will also be supporting a mother and toddler group in the area in the coming weeks.
Aldi Carley Hill is offering customers a range of opening week reductions on items such as microwaves and in-car DVD players.
The store’s opening hours will be Monday to Saturday, 8am to 10pm, and Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
