DRUG-MAKER SCM Pharma has made a deal with Sunderland University to support the launch of a new service.

The development and contract manufacturing organisation, which specialises in making sterile drug products, will house its new formulation works in the university’s £8.5million science complex.

The manufacturer will use trade events in Germany and the U.S. to showcase its new in-house service.

SCM Pharma has recruited pharmacist Ian Davis as a senior technologist.

He will work as a scientist assisting the company’s technical team.

A Sunderland University graduate, Ian has worked at Bristol Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca, but is relocating back to the north.

Dr Adrian Moore, team leader for Pharmaceutical Science at the university, said: “Linking up with SCM Pharma in our sciences complex is an incredibly exciting opportunity for our scientific staff, students and researchers on campus and is a reflection of our significant experience in the area of pharmaceutics.”
