It’s celebrating its fourth birthday this year and to honour the occasion, the owners of Gatsby, in Park Lane, are re-investing a quarter of a million pounds in the bar.

Owner John Dickman is excited about the proposed changes and, don’t worry punters, it will only be closed for ten days, including one weekend.

He said: “The bar has proved really popular, especially with sports fans, and the business has just grown year on year.

“Last year we invested in upstairs and added a beautiful glass balcony, which has been constantly busy.”

The refurb won’t take place until after the Stadium Of Light concerts as John and his team are expecting to be busy thanks to the summer events.

“The concerts are not just a boost for us, it’s a boost for the whole city,” explained John. “We’ve always been consistent but bars in town have struggled, so it’s great to have new people coming in and spending money in our pubs and clubs.

“We’re really pleased to be reinvesting in Gatsby and keeping it up to date and modern for our customers. The booths are really popular so we will be adding eight more of them and it will have an art deco theme.

“The reopening coincides with our fourth anniversary, so we are going to have a big party to celebrate on July 12 and everyone is welcome.”
