AN electrical goods repair hub in Washington is set to create 45 full-time jobs with the help of a £250,000 grant.

Having outgrown its premises in Halifax, the £24million turnover Pacifica Group aims to become the only company in the UK to supply a full range of spares, with its only European competitor being in Germany.

It is the only independent repair network in the country, working with manufacturers, retailers, utility companies, insurers and property agents, supporting their warranty provision.

Pacifica, which has its head office in Chester-le -Street has now applied to Sunderland City Council to change the use of a 5,612 sq m building at Monument Park, Pattinson Industrial Estate. The application will be heard on Thursday and has been recommended for approval.

The Pattinson site, which lies adjacent to Washington Wetlands Centre, will house a workshop, office space and staff facilities, with the remaining 80 per cent of the building used for storage and distribution. It will be home to the group’s engineering, repair, customer support and logistics.

The application states: “It is projected that the establishment of this hub will create an additional 45 full time jobs in Sunderland in the next two years and a total of approximately 115 employees working out of the site subject to this application. These will include high skilled positions in engineering, software, customer service and logistics.

“It is pertinent that the Let’s Grow Fund has awarded Pacifica Group £250,000 to assist in financing the setting up of the hub.

“This is therefore a good news story for the North East generally and Sunderland especially.”

Pacifica Group was founded in 2003, repairing white and brown goods and gas heating systems, and servicing major brands.
