NORTH East shoppers will have the opportunity to do their Christmas shopping in New York after it was annnounced flights to the city will return.

Airline Jet2.com is bringing back its festive shopping trips from Newcastle Airport for the third year in a row after packing out planes in 2011.

North East Chamber of Commerce policy advisor Mark Stephenson said: “Newcastle Airport has grown exponentially in recent years into one of the finest airports in the United Kingdom.

“It is great news that Jet2 has recognised that there is an increasing appetite for flights direct to the US.”

Dave Laws, chief executive at Newcastle International Airport, said: “For the third year in a row, Jet2holidays will operate its New York shopping trips from Newcastle, which is fantastic news for the region.

“This further demonstrates the airline’s success at Newcastle Airport and its investment in the North East.”

Flights will be priced from £415.89 per person including taxes or £699 including baggage and a three-star hotel.
