PLANNERS have put back a meeting to consider plans for three supermarkets and a £24million leisure park.

Durham County Council had been due to consider plans for three shop super store proposals for Peterlee and the phase two development at Dalton Park on April 5.

These include the Tesco plan for the former East Durham College site on the corner of Burnhope Way and Essington Way, Morrisons plan for the site of the former North Blunts Primary and another by the owners of Castle Dene Shopping Centre.

Dalton Park’s plan also includes a supermarket, along with a petrol station, hotel, cinema and restaurants.

Now the council has said it has received a significant amount of additional information from developers in relation to the plans in the last week. As a result, it plans to now look at the applications at the council’s strategic committee in May.

Stuart Timmiss, head of planning, said: “It is essential with developments of this scale that we follow the proper and due process when additional information has been provided.”
