A THIRD runaway for Heathrow airport would be good news for the North East economy, says the region’s biggest business organisation.
Mark Stephenson, North East Chamber of Commerce policy advisor, commented on the ongoing debate over national aviation strategy and Heathrow.
He said: “An expansion at Heathrow, which is operating near full capacity, will increase the chances of improving links from North East airports to the capital and beyond to overseas markets.
“Such links are presently being stifled, which means North East growth is being choked unnecessarily.
“The Government must take action, which in our view means changing its stance on the issue of the third runway for the sake of the greater economic good.”
