Keen businesses who have their minds on social enterprise were today urged: “Make sure you put your name forward for the Portfolio Awards.”
The call for city firms to back the Echo competition came from the person who is enthusiastically pushing the drive for Sunderland to succeed.
But Andrea Winders, the executive director of enterprise development at Sunderland City Council, wants Wearside to shout even louder about its achievements.
She said: “We see social enterprise at the heart of our future.
“It is at the heart of everything that we need to do as a city, today and going forwards. It is going to drive the way we work and the way we want business to work.”
Make It Sunderland is a campaign which proudly states the city is a fantastic place to do business.
Andrea believes that applies to social enterprise and firms should celebrate their many great achievements through the Sunderland Echo Portfolio awards.
She said: “I would be really keen for any business with a social element and a social mission to its whole business and ethos to enter this competition.
“We want to celebrate social enterprise in the city. It is about recognising these business entrepreneurs and working with them and growing them in Sunderland.”
