“IT’S business as usual.”
That’s the message from branches of bakery chain Cooplands across the region after the collapse of a rival firm of the same name.
The Scarborough-based Cooplands has four shops in Durham, two in Peterlee and Chester-le-Street and branches in Shiney Row, Washington, Houghton, Hetton, Hartlepool and Sunderland.
Customers have cancelled orders and requested refund since the collapse of the similarly-named Doncaster firm.
Cooplands marketing assistant Jade Normington said the confusion was understandable: “We both trade as Cooplands, we are both bakers and we are both based in Yorkshire.
“But we are Coopland & Son (Scarborough) Ltd and they are Coopland (Doncaster) Ltd. We were established in 1885 and the other company was set up in the 1930s.
“Them going into administration doesn’t affect us or our shops at all.”
