Awards tour the best of region’s gems

TOURISM attractions are looking to book in top titles as the best across the region are recognised.

This year’s North East England Tourism Awards, to be held on November 21, has shortlisted a host of venues across Wearside and County Durham, with the winners to go through to the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2014. Among those up for titles are Event Durham, which is part of Durham University, in the Business Tourism Award category; the The Ashes, Sunderland International Air Show and the Lindisfarne Gospels are in the running for the Tourism Experience of the Year title; Durham Pointers scheme, which helps visitors seek out places of interest is selected in the Visitor Provider of the Year Award; Seaham Hall is shortlisted as Small Hotel of the Year; Durham University is up for the Sustainable Tourism category and WWT Washington Wetland Centre and the Oriental Museum in Durham have been put forward for the Small Attraction of the Year section.
