Burnley striker expects Sunderland clash to be tougher than Liverpool defeat

The Clarets will come to the Stadium of Light still seeking a first away Premier League win this season, after an undeserved 2-1 reverse at Anfield.

Barnes, recalled after a one-match ban, had put Burnley in front, but Jurgen Klopp’s men rallied to edge all three points.

Now Sean Dyche’s men must regroup and chase a first away triumph against the bottom-placed Black Cats. “We had a few chances in the second half,” Barnes told burnleyfootballclub.com after becoming the first Burnley player since Peter Noble, in 1975, to score at Liverpool.

“I had a couple and if they go in it’s a point on the road and everyone’s happy.

“It goes back to the noise that we hear that we haven’t won away.

“But that’s just noise to us. As a group of players, we are confident that we will turn that luck around.

“We need to be sure we have a good week’s training and be ready on the front foot and ready for Sunderland. That will probably be harder than today.”

On yesterday’s defeat, Barnes added: “To concede right on half-time was a kick in the teeth for us.

“We did really well in the first half, got in their faces and played in their half.

“But we have to be right at it for 45-plus minutes and unfortunately we switched off for the goal.”
