Burnley eye first away win at Sunderland

The Clarets and Leicester are the only teams in the Premier League yet to win on their travels this season.

Burnley have picked up just two points away from Turf Moor.

“That’s not in the back of our minds,” said the forward, who put Burnley ahead at Liverpool on Sunday, only for the hosts to come back for a 2-1 win.

“The hype of not winning on the road comes from the outside but it will change,” he said.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves down and go again for a massive, massive game this weekend.”

Burnley led for the just the third time on the road this season when Barnes scored and having held the advantage for just six minutes at Tottenham and eight at Swansea, they had their noses in front for 39 minutes at Anfield.

But just as it looked like they would reach the break with the lead, Georgino Wijnaldum equalised when his initial flick hit Ben Mee and bounced up for the midfielder to slot home from close range.

Emre Can then struck for Liverpool to take the points.

Barnes described his goal in front of the Kop at Anfield as a ‘magical moment’ - but said the fact it counted for nothing in the final reckoning had been a kick in the teeth.

It was the 27-year-old’s 10th Premier League goal.
