The Black Cats enjoyed a fantastic win over the runaway league winners thanks to goals from Ovie Ejaria, Ashley Fletcher and Pdyy McNair.

The game also saw debuts for youngsters Denver Hume, Luke Molyneux and 16-year-old Bali Mumba, who was handed the captain's armband by John O'Shea when he came on.

Fans reacted on Twitter after the game, praising the performance - particularly that of McNair - and said there is still plenty to be positive about despite relegation to League One. Here's a selection of the comments:

@pjcatcherside1: Hopefully we can build on these last few performances and dominate L1 next year. Build a team around the likes of McNair, Honeyman, Asoro and Watmore if he gets fit, with a few experienced heads around them to guide them. How hard can it be? #SAFC

@RoryFallow: McNair & Asoro will have plenty of interest over the summer but we should do everything we can to keep them. Both were a class above today and will be miles ahead in League One #SAFC

@safc_lex: Well Sunderland never fail to surprise you!! Played a good game against wolves and ended a truly dismal season on a semi-positive.

@RamseySAFC: That's the best football I've seen us play in absolutely ages, beautiful to watch. Also every single academy coach/manager deserves a huge amount of credit. We had 6 academy players on the pitch at 1 point and all of them looked every capable. #safc

@jamesleemidd: Cracking performance lads, position no fault of your own. Keep up the hard graft and bring back the good times @Ethan_robson8 @elliot_embo @joelasoro1 @GHoneyman10 @Denver_Hume @PadMcnair. Throw @lyndengooch46 @joshmaja and @andynelson_ into the mix anarl #SAFC
