Broken down tanker causes severe delays on A1 at Washington

POLICE from two forces are dealing with the rush-hour tailbacks caused by a broken down tanker on the A1.

Officers from both Northumbria and Durham were called at 8.10am on Monday, to the northbound carriageway at Washington Services.

One lane is currently closed between Junction 63 at A167 (Chester-le-Street) and Junction 64 A195 (Washington) and one lane is closed.

Severe delays are expected and motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are at the scene to deal with traffic management.
