WEARSIDERS are being invited to help celebrate Bengali New Year.
On Sunday, Sunderland Bangladesh Centre, in Tatham Street, Hendon, will host an afternoon of activities to mark the new year.
This is the first time the Boishakhi Mela Festival will take place in the city.
It aims to bring together Bengali arts, music and culture.
Visitors can enjoy traditional food, clothes, fashion and jewellery stalls from a number of boutiques.
They will include Suits Me Fashion, Mika Couture, Rani Fashion and Hijab Boutique.
There will also be performances, rides, a bouncy castle and face-painting.
Woody and Buzz, from Toy Story, will be putting in a special appearance at the Hendon centre sometime between 1pm and 3pm.
Traditional food can also be tasted, including chot-potti, Bombay mix and kulfi.
The family-friendly event is open to everyone and takes place on Sunday, from noon to 5pm.
