Bring back the magic

Anyone paying a visit to The Washington Galleries shopping complex might be excused for thinking that its pathetic Christmas decorations had been installed by Scrooge himself.

Half a dozen boxes filled with various sized balls suspended from the ceiling, exactly how they represent Christmas I don’t know.

I remember not so many years ago The Galleries prided itself on its Christmas display.

There was a giant singing guitar-playing polar bear, penguins who danced along amidst gently falling snow, the massive fully decorated Christmas tree, and of course Santa’s grotto.

I remember the crowds of children standing along side their parents enthralled by the splendour of it all.

The look of wonder and excitement on the faces of these children, and indeed adults, was a joy to behold.

What a shame children are denied magical moments like these for the sake of a few pounds.

Please try to make the effort next year Sunderland Council it will be money well spent and I’m sure much appreciated by lots of children.
