PASSENGERS on the Tyne and Wear Metro were hit by delays this morning after two trains broke down.

One train at Fellgate developed a fault with a door and another, which was at Seaburn, was hit by a power failure, at about 6.50am.

Passengers who had been onboard got off at the stations, with the carriages later moved into sidings to allow other trains to pass.

The incident first affected the South Hylton to Pelaw section of the line, but went on to cause delays across the Metro network.

A spokesman for the service said: “We apologise for any disruption caused.”
