Boy, 15, killed after being hit by train is named
A teenager who died after being hit by a train has been named by police.
British Transport Police said they can now confirm that around 7.10am today, a 15-year-old boy, Kieran Ash from Chester-le-Street, was killed after being struck by a train in the vicinity of Birtley Junction.
In a statement his devastated family said: “Kieran was a loving son and brother to the whole family.
"We are devastated by the news and Kieran will be dearly missed by all who knew him.”
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Kieran’s family has asked that they are now given time to come to terms with their loss.
