Boxing: Sunderland ABC youngster Brandon gears up for national final against Camberley fighter

Brandon, who since joining Sunderland ABC has come on leaps and bounds and has grafted hard in the gym, has boxed four times to make it to the final and has won all four on a unanimous decision.

The youngster, along with the club’s supporters, will travel to Grantham Leisure Centre tomorrow when he takes on Camberley’s Mark Parrott (Sporting Ring) in the U63 kilos class B category

Coaches Joe Purvis and Rob Harrison believe Mould has shown great potential throughout his championship journey and boxed to orders throughout.

“There is no reason why he can’t come back with the title,” said Purvis.

Fellow Sunderland ABC boxer Kieran Macdonald gained silver in the Tammer tournament for Great Britain, beating the Hungarian representative in his first contest before losing in the U49kilo final to Scotland’s GB number one, Aqueel Ahmed.

Travis Waters boxed well in the CYP Championships against John Ruddick (Birtley), picking up a unanimous points verdict.

Waters took the England international apart during the bout, forcing Ruddick to cling on, with Travis making progress to the next round.

Joel Hassan had a tough U69 kilo encounter with Dominic Ross (South Durham) in the pre-quarters of the Youth CYP Championship.

It was a good hard contest which ebbed and flowed with Ross taking the decision to go into the semi-finals.

Jaxon Laws (Sunderland ABC) was involved in a tactical bout with the multi-national title holder James McMeekin (Darlington) at U60 kilos.

Laws boxed well though McMeekin used his strength and experience to take unanimous decison to reach the final of the Youth CYPs.
