AUTHOR Terry Deary bowled a strike when he helped disabled young people launch a new event.
The Horrible Histories writer challenged members of charity Integrating Children to a game of ten-pin bowling at AMF Washington Bowl.
The fancy dress event was the second annual sponsored bowl by the charity, which gives disabled children the chance to take part in sports and leisure.
Event organiser Ben Taylor said: “Recent research has shown that nearly 75 per cent of disabled children are denied access to leisure activities and days out for a range of reasons. This is a frightening rise of 20 per cent since 2008.
“Integrating Children works with over a hundred children helping them to take part in hobbies and activities which their non-disabled friends take for granted.”
Integrating Children has been running for 10 years and relies on fund-raising activities, including the sponsored bowl which last year raised more than £600.
