The Italian forward has been impressed with the training sessions led by Moyes on the pitches at the Academy of Light, with Borini praising his new manager for changing the way the players work.

And Borini, 25, says Moyes has a different way of playing compared to previous boss Sam Allardyce, who left to take charge of England in the summer.

“He changed the way we work, obviously, because he has a different idea about football,” said Borini.

“Robbie (Stockdale) and Paul (Bracewell) were here before Sam Allardyce as well, so they have adapted to the situation as we have as players.

“David Moyes has a different way of playing football which I find more interesting, more exciting, and training is a little bit different – he makes you use your brain and think a lot about what to do at the right time.

“I think that’s more exciting.”

Borini, who scored three times during pre-season filling the central striker void caused by Jermain Defoe’s thigh strain, stressed it was both in terms of his own position and how the team is set up.

“Both, because he challenges you to play the way he wants you to play, and physically and tactically,” he added.

“It is a constant challenge every day to prove yourself and to achieve what he wants.

“It is exciting for me personally as well, because he wants me to play with the ball more and have freedom of movement and freedom to create.”

Allardyce wasn’t as hands on at the training ground, often delegating to his assistants Robbie Stockdale and Paul Bracewell.

Moyes adopts a different approach and Borini says the players are enjoying the fresh challenge.

Borini added: “He is on the training pitch on a daily basis, he is hands-on, he takes the sessions, and he doesn’t delegate it to his assistants.

“At the beginning, he will do more and repeat himself because he wants to pass on the message straight away, as there is not much time left before the season starts.

“But I kind of like that, because he challenges you and it is good to see the passion that he has, and how much he cares about every session he takes.”

Borini added he is yet to speak one-to-one with Moyes.

“No, not yet.

“I think he has been busy doing other things!”
