WINTER won’t stop a dedicated band of keep-fit fanatics working out.

Wear-Fit boot camp has come in from the cold to hold exercise sessions in The Bridges’ multi-storey car park.

Instructors and their dedicated band of members will take over level three of the car park for early morning and evening bootcamps.

Wear-Fit founder Mel Brewis began looking for a new venue after Wear-Fit’s summer homes of Barnes Park and Roker seafront became too dark and cold.

The Bridges’ car park park manager and boot camp member Rob Moses helped team up the 31-year-old personal trainer with shopping centre bosses at The Bridges.

Mel said: “We decided to look for a winter venue a couple of months ago and thought somewhere in town would be perfect.

“With the help of Rob, we have been able to move things forward at a quick rate.

“It helps that we are the only licensed boot camp in Sunderland. Our previous contracts with SAFC Foundation and Barnes Park/Sunderland City Council have certainly helped secure another fantastic venue.

“With the sudden change in weather, dark nights and a cold, wet winter ahead, we will be able to continue all sessions as normal and not need to cancel any this winter.”

The new venue also means instructors have space to store workout equipment – including a delivery of 22 car tyres – to help boot-campers burn even more calories and can now introduce music to some sessions.

Boot camps take place in The Bridges’ car park on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 6am-7am and Mondays to Thursdays 6.30pm-7.30pm.

Andy Bradley, centre director at The Bridges, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our shoppers and retailers to keep fit.

“By using The Bridges’ multi-storey car park we are able to bring the exercise under cover, which is perfect as the cold, dark nights draw in.

“Our centre management staff are committed to supporting Wear-Fit and members of the team are already signed up for the first session at 6am. I’m urging everyone to come and get involved.”

Weekend workouts, which start after sunrise, will still take place at Barnes Park, from 8.30am on Saturdays and 10am on Sundays.
