LIGHTING up the night sky, thousands enjoyed Sunderland’s biggest and best firework display.
Ashbrooke Sports Club once again played host to the Bonfire Night spectacular with an estimated 7,000 wrapping up to enjoy the fun.
Fairground rides, a big wheel, crazy circus and spinning tea-cups kept big smiles on little faces until the official display got underway at 7.30pm last night.
Five-year-old Corin McCluskey made the most of the stalls and entertainment with a little help from dad Ian.
Ian, from Thorney Close, said: “We’ve been before but this was the first time in a while and it’s great to be back.
“Corin has really enjoyed himself. It’s a terrific night for the family.”
Spectators warmed themselves up with hot soup, baked potatoes and burgers as they wandered around the West Lawn venue.
Three-year-old Noah Noble was given a helping hand from dad Roy to make sure he didn’t miss the display.
Roy, of Grindon, said: “We’ve been before and it’s always a terrific night – and it’s not been too cold either.”
Daughter Jessica, 11, agreed. She said: “We’ve had a good night and there’s been lots to do.”
John Martin, 38, of Ashbrooke, said: “We usually just watch from the bedroom window so it’s great to be here.”
