The popular West Boldon Community Christmas Festival Carols Around the Tree took place last Wednesday on the green next to the village sign and Christmas Tree on Addison Road, West Boldon. More than 200 people turned joined in the community carol singing, accompanied by both the senior and junior members of The People’s Mission Silver Band. from South Shields. Pupils from West Boldon Primary School sang a collection of Christmas songs and the public were encouraged to sing up and be part of what has become a wonderful Christmas event in the village each year. The Residents’ Association would like to pass on its thanks to South Tyneside Council for its financial support and to the local Councillors who attended. Soup was served throughout the evening, supplied by The Red Lion, and Santa had a gift for all the children. A huge thanks to all who attended from the Residents’ Association, which meets once a month. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 13, at 10am, in The Wheatsheaf in West Boldon. All villagers are welcome.

East Boldon Library will be closed from Christmas Eve at 4pm until 9.30am on Monday, January 4.

Thirty parishioners of St Nicholas in West Boldon, were joined by members of St George’s in East Boldon and St Nicholas, Hedworth, Boldon Colliery, for their patronal festival earlier this month. A service of evening prayer was followed by a faith supper in the parish hall. Christmas services at St Nicholas, West Boldon, will take place on Christmas Eve at 3pm Jesus’s Birthday Party and a Sung Eucharist at 8pm. A Said Eucharist will take place on Christmas Day at 9.30am. The church’s Epiphany carol service takes place on Sunday, January 3, at 6pm, which will include songs by the worship group Benefice.

Local Folk Group Seganianm will host the Folk Club at The Grey Horse in East Boldon at 7.30pm on Thursday, January 7. The group will be at The Cricket Club on Sunderland Road, East Boldon, on Thursday, January 14, from 8pm to host the Folk Club. Admission is free to both events. A Friends of the Irish Night will take place at The Alberta Club in Jarrow near the Metro Station and everyone is welcome. Seganianm will perform at this event on Thursday, January 26.

Boldon Community Association Centre will close for a Festive break tomorrow at 10pm and reopen on Monday, January 4, at 9am.

After almost 11 months Post Office services were resumed yesterday in the village shop and Post Office on Addison Road in West Boldon. The community would like to welcome Mr Singh as the new Sub-Postmaster and wish him every success in this essential service and village store. The trading hours for Post Office services have been extended and are available from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, 6am to 4pm Saturday and 6am to 1pm Sunday.
