West Boldon Residents’ Association recently held a fund raising night in The Wheatsheaf Hotel. A pie and peas supper was followed by entertainment by Local Folk Band Seganainm. The evening was voted a great success by everyone. Seganainm plays every Friday in Jarrow Hall next to the Cafe at Bede’s World, Jarrow, between 11.30am and 3pm and there is no charge to go along to Jarrow Hall to hear the group.
A reminder that tonight is the special Christmas Floral demonstration event annually held by Cleadon Floral Arrangement Society in All Saints’ Church hall in Cleadon at 7.30pm. This year the well-known national flower arranger, Vivien Bolton, will give her demonstration entitled Season’s Greetings. Seasonal refreshments will be served and arrangements will be raffled at the end of the event. All welcome. Admission payable at the door.
The November Jarrow/Boldon CAF meeting will be held in the Boldon Community Association Centre, New Road, Boldon Colliery, in the Robert’s Room on Thursday, November 26, at 5pm.
There are to be various public presentations in the coming months in and around the Boldons regarding the future work to be carried out on the A19 roundabout at Testos on the western edge of West Boldon village.
East Boldon Infants School will hold a come to school wearing a Christmas Jumper day in aid of Save the Children on Friday, December 18. Pupils are asked to take a small donation. The school will have a Theatre Company visit on the morning of Wednesday, December 16. They will perform their production of Snow White for the children. The school’s annual toy service will take place in St George’s Church on Monday, November 30, at 2pm. Parents will be asked to donate a gift for a boy or girl wrapped, which will be handed over to the North East Giving Tree Appeal which supports disadvantaged children and young people in our local area.
East Boldon Methodist Church will hold its first and third Wednesday of the month coffee morning tomorrow in the church hall, on the corner of Bridle Path. There will be a bring-and-buy, cake stall and home-made refreshments from 10.am to noon.
Churches in the Boldon area are holding the following events on the run-up to Christmas: St Nicholas in West Boldon will hold an autumn fair in the parish hall on Rectory Bank from 10am to 12.30pm on Saturday, November 28, with all the usual festive stalls and activities. On Sunday, December 6, it will hold its Patronal Festival in the church followed by a faith supper in the parish hall and a Christingle service will take place in church on Wednesday, December 9, at 6.15pm. St. George’s Church in East Boldon has arranged its annual festive trip to St Nicholas Fair and York on Friday, November 27, leaving at 8.30am, costing £15 per head. Contact Joyce on 536 4464 to book. A Christmas coffee morning will be held at the church on Tuesday, December 7. Events at St Nicholas in Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery, will include Messy Church on Saturday, December 5 from 11.30am and a broth and stottie evening will be held on Monday, December 14. A carol service followed by mulled wine and mince pies will be held at The Sacred Heart Church in New Road, Boldon Colliery, at 6.30pm on Sunday, December 20.
A fine arts and antiques sale will be held at Boldon Auction Galleries on Wednesday, December 9, at 10am. Viewing takes place on Saturday from 10am to 1pm, Tuesday from 10am to 6pm and on the morning before the sale from 9am.
