During Friday and Saturday this week the historic church of St Nicholas in West Boldon will be open to the public as part of the English Heritage Open Weekend. Stewards in the church will be on hand to show visitors around filling in some of the history of the 800-year-old building. All are welcome.

In January this year the Royal British Legion Club building in North Road, Boldon Colliery, had its concert hall roof blown off in the gales. Over the past few months, members have fundraised by increasing events and entertainment at the club and the roof has now been replaced and the concert room refurbished. The concert room is now available to hire for parties and other celebrations. A Rock and Rollers Club has been established every Sunday night and there is dancing to live and recorded music. All are welcome.

There has been a change to the East Boldon Folk Band, Seganainm’s programme this month. On Saturday afternoon, September 19, they will be playing at Bede’s World and their gig planned for The Travelling Man that evening has been rescheduled and will now take place on Saturday, November 7, instead. Admission to these events is free. The band will host the folk group at The Cricket Ground on Sunderland Road in East Boldon this Thursday.

Line dance classes are held in Boldon Community Association Centre, New Road, Boldon Colliery, on Wednesdays from 12.30pm-3pm for beginners and improvers and on Thursdays from 7.30pm-10pm for improvers and advanced. All are welcome, just turn up.

The Jarrow and Boldon Community Area Forum meeting will take place this Thursday in Jarrow Town Hall at 10am.

If you are interested in a trip to Ripon, cost is £14 and an optional visit to Newby Hall and Gardens, cost of entrance will be an extra £11.90. The next first and third Wednesday of the month coffee morning at East Boldon Methodist Church in East Boldon will take place on Wednesday, September 16, from 10am-noon. There will also be brin-and-buy, cake stall, home-baking and raffle.

Boldon Auction Galleries in East Boldon will hold a fine art and antique sale on Wednesday, September 16, at 10am.

Cleadon Floral Arrangement Society will meet in All Saint’s Church hall in Cleadon on Tuesday, September 15, at 7.30pm. Floral Demonstrator Wendy Smith will arrange her flowers on the theme Metal Flora. New and old members and visitors are welcome. Light refreshments are served and arrangements raffled. The group will hold a Christmas workshop DIY at its next meeting on October 20 and Vivian Bolton will demonstrate at the annual Christmas demonstration evening on Tuesday, November 17, arranging Christmas flowers on the theme Seasons Greetings’. Tickets are on sale for the Christmas demonstration but you are welcome to drop in and pay at the door.

A Spaghetti Bolognaise supper will accompany an evening of bingo and Play your Cards Right at St Nicholas Parish Hall on Rectory Bank, West Boldon, on Monday, September 21, costing £6.
