A COMPANY boss praised firefighters for preventing a blaze from spreading to other areas of a factory.

The fire broke out in a spray booth at FM Coatings in Brooklands Way, Boldon Colliery, just after 9am on Saturday, with firefighters from Fulwell drafted in alongside colleagues from South Shields and Hebburn.

Ten officers wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control, with fans also used to clear the premises of smoke, which damaged other areas of the building.

The fire was sparked by a fault in a motor in the paint booth, which was completely destroyed in the incident.
