Body found in search for missing Sunderland teenager

TEAMS searching for a missing Sunderland teenager have found a body.

Jordan Roberts, 17, from Sunderland, went missing yesterday afternoon after he got into difficulty playing in the river at Finchale Abbey.

Police have now confirmed that the body of a teenage boy, believed to be Jordan Roberts, has been found in the river wear near to the priory.

No formal identification has yet taken place and efforts to recover the body are underway.

Supt Andy Huddleston said: “Jordan’s family have been informed of this latest development. We are continuing to support the family at this difficult time.”

Rescue crews were called out at 5pm yesterday after reports young men – understood to be brothers – had got into danger in the river.

A friend managed to pull one of the brothers out of the water and administered CPR, which police believe saved his life.

He was taken to hospital and his condition is described as poorly but stable.

A major search and rescue operation was launched when Jordan was found to be unaccounted for.

A search of the river and the surrounding area was conducted late into the night.

Police have confirmed a body has been found.
