TWO bodies have been found in the search for schoolgirls who went missing in the River Wear near Washington.

Specialist police marine units made the find after searching the water by Fatfield Bridge, watched by the girls’ distressed families and friends.

The families of both girls have been informed and both bodies have been taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Coastguard search and rescue teams and fire crews had also joined in the rescue bid, which was being co-ordinated by Northumbria Police and has now been scaled down.
