Blaze at Sunderland cottage leaves property severely damaged

A Sunderland home has suffered extensive damage following a blaze last night.

A fire in the yard of an end-terrace cottage in Tower Street West spread to the rear of the property at about 9.20pm.

A spokesman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "One appliance attended Tower Street West, Sunderland, on Saturday at 9.20pm.

"This was a single-storey end terrace cottage.

"A fire in the back yard had spread to the rear of the property.

"The rear door, kitchen window, bedroom window, roof fascia and guttering were 100% severely damaged by fire.

"The kitchen interior was 5% severely damaged by fire, and the remainder of the property was 100% severely damaged by fire."
