A CELEBRATION to mark the first birthday of a project which will preserve and
rejuvenate the banks of the River Wear attracted a crowd of more than 1,000 people.

The three-year scheme is being coordinated by Durham Cathedral and is backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund as areas around the city’s peninsula are made accessible, sustainable and welcoming to visitors.

A fun day held in the cloister garth included arts and crafts, a rockpool display, willow-weaving workshops and photography activities and has been declared a huge success.
