Biker hurt in smash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a biker suffered serious injuries in a crash.

 The incident happened as the 44-year-old man was riding his Harley Davidson on the A690 at West Rainton, at 4.15pm on Monday.

 At the Robin Lane junction the biker collided with a silver Ford Fiesta.

 The biker had been travelling along the westbound carriageway towards Durham and was hit by the car, which had been waiting in the central reservation to turn into Robin Lane.

 The man was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham with serious leg injuries, although his condition is not said to be life-threatening.

 The driver of the Fiesta, a 28-year-old woman from South Hetton, suffered whiplash.
