En route to Sunderland, Beyoncé made a pit stop in LA to steal the show overnight at the BET awards.
Though her mother Tina Knowles had to collect her awards at the prestigious event while Beyoncé caught her flight to the UK, she did have time to put in an electrifying performance of Freedom from her new album Lemonade.
Dancers marched down the theatre aisles to an excerpt from Dr Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream before Beyoncé opened the show by emerging from a cloud of smoke alongside her dancers in a wading pool of water.
She was joined by rapper Kendrick Lamar as the pair splashed and stomped home the song's powerful message.
Tina later collected the star's four awards, including best female R&B/pop artist, video of the year for “Formation” and Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice, whilst Beyoncé set off for the UK.
The high-octane performance is a taster of what Sunderland can expect when the star opens the European leg of her Formation World tour at the Stadium of Light tomorrow night.
