The singer has taken over the reins at the former Ivy Leaf Club on Suffolk Street, Hendon, yards from where he was born and raised in Clementina Street.
It’s now known as The New Ivy, and Shaun has plans to breathe new life into the venue to once again attract punters through the doors.
Shaun, who appeared as a singer in the hit top comedy television Benidorm, is also unveiling his Benidorm Nights show, which will include some special guests in the months to come.
As well as regular bingo sessions, the venue is serving affordable drinks and has a programme of regular entertainment lined up.
Shaun, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the entertainment industry, is also a Sunderland City Council-appointed Ambassador for the City and is keen to do his bit to enhance the area.
He said: “This was once an old style, standing-room only, community club and the aim is to bring back those glory years.
“We have already put some hard work in, to carry out urgent repair work to the building. As the club returns to success, we plan to invest more money to revamp the bar, concert room and snug.
“I’m a local lad and have performed here many, many times over the years. It would mean a lot to me personally if I could help get this venue back to where it should be.”
News of his Benidorm Nights show is already attracting people to the city after Shaun posted information on his Facebook page.
He said: “I’ve already had calls from folk in Yorkshire and asking about hotel accommodation in the city, so they can come to see the show. This is only the start.”
As well as appearing in the hit ITV show, Shaun is a regular performer on the Benidorm cabaret scene.
He’s also toured theatres around the country with his One Night in Vegas show.
