THE closing date is looming for an awards scheme which champions the work of unsung heroes in sport.
Organisers of the Sport and Physical Activity Awards for County Durham say its ceremony this year will be more important than ever, as it will help mark the 2012 Olympics.
It is welcoming entries in 13 categories, which include sporting excellence, coaching, clubs and volunteers and hopes the celebration will help recognise achievements which help develop the area’s sporting landscape.
Winners will be chosen from the five areas of the county, including Easington, Durham and Chester-le-Street, with the overall titles to be presented in October.
The closing date for entries is Friday, August 31.
