Those were the words of grateful mum Gemma Lowery to Sunderland Echo readers who have nominated her son Bradley Lowery for a Best of Wearside Award.

Five-year-old Bradley has been put forward for a Child of Courage Award in recognition of his brave battle with cancer.

Mrs Lowery said: “It makes me feel so proud and humbled that people have taken the time to nominate him for an award.

“It has restored my faith in humanity.”

Bradley was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2013 and underwent gruelling chemotherapy and numerous operations.

The initial treatment proved to be a success and the brave youngster was declared to be in remission in 2015.

But sadly, the cancer has returned and Bradley’s family have managed to raise over £700,000 as part of their appeal to fund potentially life-saving treatment in the USA.

Mrs Lowery, from Blackhall, added: “The nomination will also give him a little boost as he is undergoing chemotherapy at the moment.

“He had chemotherapy two weeks agon and we are waiting for his bloods to recover before his next round.
“He had a half dose of chemotherapy this time which will hopefully mean we can give him more chemotherapy in a shorter period of time at the same dose as before.

“He is back home at the moment but he is in and out of hospital every other day having blood and platelets transfusions.”
