Sunderland Cardiac Support Group’s monthly meeting takes place on Thursday, August 11, at 6.45pm In The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital. Guest speaker is John Aderson with his talk, ‘Archibald’s Journey - A Volunteer in The Boer War’.

Sunderland Minster will be holding a Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 27, from 10pm to 1pm.

Ewesley Road WI are having an afternoon tea on Wednesday, August 10. This will be in the main hall of Ewesley Road Church from 2pm to 4pm. There will be a tombola and white elephant stall and also a raffle. Entrace is £3.

Auditions will be held at The Royalty Theatre, off Chester Road, on Wednesday, August 10, at 7.30pm. Directed by Anna Snell, the play will be staged in October, for The Machine Gunners.

Call into Sunderland Minster’s Vintage and Craft Fayre on Saturday, August 6, from 10am to 3pm. On sale will be jewellery, handbags, knitted items, exclusive hand crafted greetings cards and gift bags, and much more. Refreshments are available, and entry is 50p for adults and children are free.

St Gabriel’s Church coffee morning takes place on Saturday, August 29, from 10am to 3pm, and is in aid of church funds. £1 for coffee and scone. There will also be a cake stall and raffle. Call along and enjoy the fellowship. All are welcome.

Call into St Luke’s Church coffee morning on Saturday, August 6, at 10am. There will be a raffle, jewellery stall, tea coffee and scone.

St Nicholas Wednesday Brownies recently celebrated the end of the summer term with a joint party with St Nicholas Thursday Guides. The Brownies were treated to a treasure hunt around the church grounds, team games and races. They also learned some funny action songs. The night finished with a party tea. Great fun was had by all.

St Nicholas Church has a new venture for the summer. Afternoon teas, the next of which is on Saturday, August 6, from 3.30pm to 5pm. Held in the Haver Hall of the church, the cost will be £3 each.

A charity jumble sale in aid of Sunderland Prostate Oncology Group will take place in the grounds of The Chesters Pub on Saturday, September 10, from 9am. Donations of items to sell would be appreciated, to arrange collection call Ian on 07929 010291.

Soup and socks will be held at St Nicholas Church on Wednesday, August 10, from noon to 1.30pm.

As part of the Organ Recitals 2016, one of the biggest in the North East is at Sunderland Minster. On Saturday, August 20, Emma Gibbins from Newport Cathedral will be playing. This event starts at 1pm, lasts 50 minutes, with free entry and Big Screen View.

Outlook, a relaxed midweek service at St Gabriel’s Church on Monday, August 8, from 2pm to 3pm. This is a short informal service followed by refreshments and a chat.

Barnes, Pallion and Millfield Residents’ Association holds its AGM on tonight at 7pm in St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street.

Sunderland Floral Art Club meet in The Royalty Theatre. They have no meeting in August, but resume on Tuesday, September 20, at 2pm, when Katherine Hume from Bishop Auckland will be guest demonstrator. The title of her demonstration is Celebration. Sunderland Floral Art Club is a small, friendly club, and you are welcome to go along and join. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

The Salvation Army, Rutland Street, are having a Table Top Sale on Saturday, September 17, from 10am to noon. Anyone interested in hiring a table for £8 per table should contact 0191 528 0558.

Open Arms coffee morning is on Wednesday, August 3, from 10.30am to noon in the Aidan Room of the Church. Open Arms is a support network of carers who can get together for an informal chat, time out and a chance to spend time withother people who share and understand the experiences of being a carer.
