A stall named Handmade, selling gifts made from recyled materials, was one of the stalls at Sunderland Minster Vintage and Craft Fayre. This event is held on the first Saturday of every month. The next fair takes place on Saturday , May 7, from 10am-3pm. Local crafts, handmade gifts, hand-crafted greetings cards and gift bags, cakes and refreshments are also available. Admission is 50p, children free.

A team from West Mount Dental Surgery went along to work with the St Nicholas Wednesday Brownies to find out the best ways to look after their teeth. The girls practised brushing on a giant set of teeth,sorted foods into good and not so good and discovered how much sugar is hidden in fizzy drinks, 54g in a small bottle of coke and 50g in a small bottle of Ribena.

Ken Jolly received Maundy Money from The Queen at Windsor Chapel this year, then on Tuesday, April 5, a team visited St Gabriel’s from Songs of Praise to film Ken, 90, being interviewed by Pam Rhodes and playing the organ for a special edition of the show to commemorate The Queen’s 90th birthday. More than 100 people attended St Gabriel’s Church for a tea party and to see the BBC film of The Queen presenting The Maundy Money. It was a wonderful afternoon.

Sunderland Men’s Probus Club meets tomorrow at 10am for 10.30am in Ashbrook Sports Pavilion for its AGM. One item of business will be to arrange the annual summer bus outing.

Burn Park Methodist Church presents A piano recital and afternoon tea with Alan Bowers on Saturday, April 30, at 2pm. Tickets, £5, are available from church members or call Elma on 5251930.

Deptford and Millfield Community Centre has a bowling club , which meets on Mondays and Fridays from 1pm-3.15pm. Anyone interested in joining, just go along and ask for Moira.

A Compass Acapellaconcert will take place in St Gabriel’s Church on Saturday from 7pm-9pm. Tickets are £4 and must be bought before the event from the Church office on 5142397.

Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship will meet tomorrow at 7.30pm. This will be a members’ night, and there will also be a sales table.

On Saturday, Ewesley Road Methodist Church will be holding a coffee morning from 10am-noon to celebrate The Queen’s 90th Birthday. There will be a home-baking stall and prize raffle, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits.

Outlook, a relaxed midweek service, will be held at St Gabriel’s Church on Monday, April 25, from 2pm-3pm. This is a short, informal service followed by refreshments and a chat. Usually this meeting is held on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.

Sunderland Minster Playgroup meets every Tuesday from 9.30am-11.30am. Sessions cost £1.50 and refreshments are available.

Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club will meet in St John’s Church, Ashbrooke, on Thursday, April 28. On this occasion it will be the AGM. Coffee will be served at 10am and the meeting begins at 10.30am.

The next Millfield Residents’ Association Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 29, at 7pm in St Mark’s CA, St Mark’s Terrace. A Pact meeting will precede this meeting at 6.30pm, when residents can talk to the police relating to crime or antisocial behaviour.

Pallion Gospel Hall, Pallion Road , will hold a family service on the last Sunday of the month at 4pm, followed by tea.

Ewesley Road Methodist Church will be holding its annual jumble sale on Saturday, May 7, at 1.30pm.
