Saint Nicholas Wednesday Brownies have been working on an Under The Sea theme this term. The girls spent a productive night practising their sewing skills in order to create a mermaid. They have also made a Rainbow Sparkly Fish from a CD and are looking forward to an end of term Sea Creature Party. They were recently successful in winning the Division Brownie Challenge where they completed a piece of art work featuring Poseidon.

Ava West, six, who trains at St Mark’s Community Association, Millfield, recently achieved a double grade with The Northern Karate Association. Her instructor, parents and fellow students are all very proud of her. The club meets on Sundays from 5pm to 6pm. Anyone wishing to start, just pop along or call Rebecca on 07979538992.

In The Beginning – The Story of St Peter’s Church, Monkweramouth, built in AD 674 by St Benedict Biscop, will be told by a video presentation at the monthly meeting of Sunderland Men’s Probus Club in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion tomorrow at 10.30am. Visitoirs are welcome.

A pre-Christmas coffee morning and sale will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 10am to noon at Salvation Army, Rutland Street, Millfield. The table-top sale has bric-a-brac, white elephant, cakes, sweets, Christmas gifts and Christmas wrapping paper and toys.

Sunderland Floral Art Club Christmas Open Night will take place on Tuesday, November 17, at 7.15pm in The Royalty Theatre. A flower demonstration will be given by John Thexton, titled All I Want For Christmas. Tickets are £7 available from Pam on 5227832 or pay at the door. John, from Armathwaite in Cumbria, is on his first visit to Sunderland Floral Art Club.

A vintage and craft fair will be held at Sunderland Minster on Saturday, November 7, from 10am to 3pm. There will be lots of items including jewellery, hand crafted greetings cards, refreshments and handmade gifts. Admission will be 50p, children free.

Messy Church will be held at Sunderland Millfield Salvation Army in Rutland Street on Saturday from 10am to noon with games, craft, stories, food and lots of fun. It’s all free and for all ages. Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

Who Killed Dracula’s Bride –Halloween Murder Mystery Night will be held at The Chesters on Saturday at 7pm. Put your sleuth skills to the test, have fun and help a good cause. Arthritis Care Group Sunderland will meet on November 4 from 6pm to 8pm in Sunderland Royal Hospital Education Centre. Consultant Rheumatologist Dr Cody will give a talk.

Pallion Trader Christmas Lights Switch On takes place on Friday, November 13. Part of the entertainment will include brass bands, choirs and street dance group. The lights will be switched on at 6pm and then turned on at 3.30pm every night until January.

The Lions Club of Sunderland needs help. When Rudolf’s work is done visiting the children of the city this Christmas he and Santa’s sleigh will need some shelter. All Rudolf needs is the occasional few carrots and a plate of oats. Surely somewhere in the Sunderland area there is a space in the corner of a garage, warehouse or outhouse that could be used. Friends of Barnes Park will host Halloween activities on Saturday from 5pm to 6.30pm at The Coach House. There will be a dog fancy dress competition, pumpkin parade, fancy dress competition, disco and other Halloween treats. The cafe will be open. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bingo will be held in St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street, on Saturday, November 7, at 1.30pm.

Barnes, Pallion and Millfield Residents’ Association meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 3, at 7pm in St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street.

Saint Luke’s Church and St Mark’s Church are to host Little Ripples, a fun free worship for babies, toddlers and carers in school time, but it is closed in the school holidays, every Tuesday at 1.30pm. It will lasts for about an hour. There will be lots of time for songs, stories, time for everyone to meet, chat and socialise and make new friends. Free refreshments for the children and carers will be available. The session begins again after the half term holidays, starting on November 3 at St Luke’s Church, Pallion, then November 10 at St Mark’s Church, Millfield; November 17 at St Luke’s Church and November 24 at St Mark’s Church.Everyone is welcome.

Saint Luke’s Church winter fair takes place on Saturday, November 7, at 2pm in the large hall. There will be raffles, tombola, baking stall, jewellery and a bathroom stall and bric-a-brac. Coffee, tea and scones will be available.

Burn Park Methodist Church will hold its Autumn fair on Saturday, November 7, from 10am to noon. Lots of ideas for Christmas, enjoy a cuppa and meet your friends.
